Quaint little museum, great exhibits on beach history.
Do check the website, they are open limited hours. Especially off season.
What a treasure this little museum is. They are only opened from May-October so make sure you check before heading out. They have wonderful archives which can be accessed by graduate students and other researchers and they have the best information about the history of St. Pete. Beach. Very helpful volunteers and staff.
This small hundred-year-old building is packed with history and staffed by knowledgeable volunteers. My sons enjoyed the display of artifacts from the 1500s through the 20th cenrury. I learned about families who founded the gulf beaches and characters like the happy hermit, Silas Dent. It has brochures for a historic walking tour of Passe-a-grille and the history of the Don Cesar. The amazing aerial photography from the early 20th century is enough to bring me back. There's so much more, too.
Don't wait for a rainy day to visit this little treasure on Pass-a-grille. They have a limited summer schedule (May-October). Researchers and graduate students can make an appointment to get into the archives which abound with great material about all of Pinellas County's gulf beaches. The volunteer culture is rich and welcoming to those interested in donating time. Service learning opportunities exist for students of all ages, too.
